Stimulus-Response In Game Design
Since Pong was released in 1972 games have been designed and developed.
Throughout these decades some best practices of game design have been
gathered and used extensively. Most large games studios know these, and have
the data to back it up, however they have never released that information.
Therefore, this honours project aimed to answer the question of “Is quality
assurance important in games design?”. After examination of the literature, a
study was designed and executed to answer this question, with the specific focus
of game flow. Players’ enjoyment of a game that was purposefully broken was
lower than the equivalent working-version of the game. This allows us to
conclude that quality assurance is indeed important in games development.
